Design your surroundings for success

A client announced one day that he would like to design his surroundings for success!
What should he do? I asked him to define what he meant by success. Did he want to be a successful parent, spouse or leader of his local business person’s organization? Or, did he want to be successful in his work environment? Success comes in many forms with numerous options so it isn’t quite as simple as just saying “I want to be a success”.

In this case the client was specifically speaking of his work, the manner in which he earns his income. But once again I had to question him as to what he considered success, more business travel, a promotion, more income? I needed him to focus on his goals and be specific otherwise he would be like Alice in Wonderland. “If you don’t know where you are going, how will you know when you get there”? Finally, my client got the message and stated specifically, “I want to increase my income but in order to do that I need the full cooperation of my office team so I can concentrate on bringing in new business and expand existing business”. Now that we have a well defined goal, Feng Shui techniques can be used very effectively to help focus the positive energy needed to accomplish his goal.

Since Feng Shui is “the use of positive energy to bring about desired results” one can, with a certain amount of confidence, determine where positive energy is needed in this person’s office to help him reach his goal. In this case, I began by making sure that when he sits at his desk he is always sitting facing the door which is the most powerful position in the office. Then, I also made sure there was no clutter in the office or on the desk. If I were to focus energy on the cluttered areas, the clutter and obstacles in his life would become worse, not better and he would be even further away from reaching his goal.

The files and things he used daily were organized using vertical filing systems on his credenza and appropriate desktop accessories. We also made sure he had easy comfortable access to his computer and telephone. A limited number of personal items were grouped together on his desk in the southwest corner to energize his personal relationships. We added to that a picture of him with a very successful client at the grand opening of the client’s expanded office complex to energize business relationships. In his line of work there is no way he can expand his business without maintaining good existing relationships or creating new ones.

Being a bicycle enthusiast, we energized the cooperation of his office team by framing in silver a wonderful poster of Lance Armstrong with the US Tour de France racing team following his most recent victory. What a great energy example of teamwork and support of their leader. This picture was hung on the wall in the northwest, helpful people area of his office. The silver frame served to further energize this area.

Since income was also an objective, we energized the southeast wealth area of his office by adding a very healthy large indoor tree. And, to further energize his chosen career path we hung a beautiful painting of a gently flowing river at sunrise on his north wall. At this point we completed his office but we also needed to energize some of these same areas in his home. We used their great room because that is where he and his family spent most of their time. We energized the southwest relationships area with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers in earth tone colors, the northwest helpful people area with an existing large sliver statue of their favorite bred of dog and the wealth area with a healthy “good luck” plant. Of course we made sure first that there was no clutter in any of these areas.

Energizing an office for success is no different than energizing a home for abundance or health. You always start by removing the clutter and then you systematically energize various areas depending on your goals and objectives. The side benefit to energizing your office is that it has a wonderful ripple effect. We’ve tossed the pebble of new positive energy into the office and the ripple will reach out to all those that work in the office and the people they interact with plus the family members at home. Positive energy is contagious just like a smile. The more positive energy you surround yourself with the more others return to you.
